A 4-week series where kids will learn about the Bible as they explore its authority, authenticity, accessibility and application through context.

Memory Statement

The Bible is God’s Word to all people in a collection of stories and promises all about His redeeming work to save the world from sin and death through His Son Jesus. It teaches us how to live a life that glorifies God and transforms us to become like Jesus.

 

Part 1

Key Point: The authority of the Bible comes from the Spirit of God.

Key Scripture:

In the beginning, the Word was already there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Know that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
  • Discover Jesus was the Word of God in action.
  • Understand that the Bible has authority from the Spirit.

Part 3

Key Point: We can trust the Apostle’s stories because they were witnesses of Jesus.

Key Scripture:

1 Here is what we announce to everyone about the Word of life. The Word was already here from the beginning. We have heard him. We have seen him with our eyes. We have looked at him. Our hands have touched him. This life has appeared. We have seen him. We are witnesses about him. And we announce to you this same eternal life. He was already with the Father. He has appeared to us. We announce to you what we have seen and heard. We do it so you can share life together with us. And we share life with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing this to make our joy complete.

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Understand why the authors of the Bible were reliable sources to document God’s Word.
  • Learn the Bible has been accurately reproduced over the course of history to further bolstering its authenticity.
  • Know the truth in the Bible is reliable.

Part 2

Key Point: The more we understand the people of the Bible, the more relevant it becomes.

Key Scripture:

Do your best to please God. Be a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed. Teach the message of truth correctly.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn how to better understand God’s Word by taking it into context.
  • Know how to understand the context of passages by investigating more about the book (author, audience, purpose, literature genre).
  • Discover how context can help them in their daily walk with Christ.

Part 4

Key Point:  The Bible became more accessible to help us draw closer to God.

Key Scripture:

16 God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right. 17 By using Scripture, the servant of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn the Bible is translated into different versions and languages to make it more accessible for all people.
  • Discover that the organisation of testaments, books and letters, chapters, verses in the Bible make it more accessible to study the Word.
  • Understand that we have access to the Bible to help us draw closer to God.
