The Upside-Down Kingdom

Learning Outcomes

A 4-week series where kids will discover how the Kingdom of God is counter-cultural to the values and systems of the world as they explore the ideas of giving to get, the big things in the small, keeping their eyes on God and loving like Christ.

Key Word

Don’t live the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2 (NIRV)

Part 1

Key Point: In God’s Kingdom it’s not about what you keep, but what you let go of

Key Scripture:

In everything I did, I showed you that we must work hard and help the weak. We must remember the words of the Lord Jesus. He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
Acts 20:35 (NIRV)

  • Learn that the things they refuse to let go of can have control over their hearts.
  • Understand that storing treasure in heaven is more valuable than storing treasures here on earth.

Part 3

Key Point: In God’s Kingdom it’s not all about you, but it’s all about God

Key Scripture:

Jesus called them together. He said, “You know about the rulers of the Gentiles. They hold power over their people. Their high officials order them around.  Don’t be like that. Instead, anyone who wants to be important among you must be your servant.
Matthew 20:25-26 (NIRV)

  • Learn that everything they do should be for God’s glory and not their own.

Part 2

Key Point: In God’s Kingdom it’s not about the amount, but who you give it to to grow

Key Scripture:
Another of his disciples spoke up. It was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He said,  “Here is a boy with five small loaves of barley bread. He also has two small fish. But how far will that go in such a large crowd?”
John 6:8-9 (NIRV)

Part 4

Key Point:  In God’s Kingdom it’s not about us deciding what is fair, but about God being the Judge

Key Scripture:

My dear friends, don’t try to get even. Leave room for God to show his anger. It is written, “I am the God who judges people. I will pay them back,” says the Lord. Do just the opposite. Scripture says, “If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. By doing those things, you will pile up burning coals on their heads.”
Romans 12:19-20 (NIRV)

  • Know that God is the Judge and will pay back all injustices.
