Learning Outcomes

Kids will learn about their identity in Christ as they explore who God says they are through scripture in Romans 8.

Key Word

God’s whole nature is living in Christ in human form. Because you belong to Christ, you have been made complete. He is the ruler over every power and authority. – Colossians 2:9-10 (NIRV)

 

Part 1

Key Point: I am free because of what Jesus did for me

Key Scripture:

Verse 3: Because of what Christ Jesus has done, you are free. You are now controlled by the law of the Holy Spirit who gives you life. The law of the Spirit frees you from the law of sin that brings death.
Romans 8:1-13 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Understand what it means to be a slave to sin and how it can trap or imprison us.
  • Learn that they are free from the power of guilt and shame of sin because of what Jesus did for all of us.
  • Know Jesus freed them by taking their punishment for all their sins to provide them access to their heavenly Father.

Part 3

Key Point: I am chosen by God to carry out Jesus’ mission

Key Scripture:

Verse 29: God planned that those he had chosen would become like his Son. In that way, Christ will be the first and most honoured among many brothers and sisters
Romans 8:26-30 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn that God chose them to be part of His Family before they were even born.
  • Understand that God chose them because He believes in them and loves them greatly.
  • Know that God also chose them to continue the mission of spreading the Gospel that Jesus gave His disciples.

Part 2

Key Point: I am a child of God with an eternal inheritance

Key Scripture:

Verse 14: Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
Romans 8:14-25 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Know they are children of God because of what Jesus has done and are part of God’s covenant family.
  • Learn that God has made them a new creation (being/creature) by the Spirit.
  • Understand that as a child of God they will receive an inheritance that will never perish, spoil, or fade.

Part 4

Key Point: I am a winner because nothing can separate me from God’s amazing love.

Key Scripture:

No! In all these things we are more than winners! We owe it all to Christ, who has loved us.
Romans 8:37 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn that they are a winner in God’s eyes through the work of Jesus.
  • Know they can trust in who God calls them to be because He sees the beginning and end of their story.
  • Understand the reason we may not feel like winners in our day to day life, and a change in perspective is a remedy.
