Baptism of Fire

Learning Outcomes

A 3-week series where kids will learn about the baptism by the Holy Spirit. They will learn about being filled with the Spirit, the sort of power that comes from the infilling, and the purpose of being filled with the Spirit.

Key Word

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to speak in languages they had not known before. The Spirit gave them the ability to do this. – Acts 2:4 (NIRV)

 

Part 1

Key Point: We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit

Key Scripture:

Verse 6: Paul placed his hands on them. Then the Holy Spirit came on them. They spoke in languages they had not known before. They also prophesied.

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn being born of the spirit and being baptised by the Holy Spirit are two different events in the life of a believer.
  • Know what is required to be filled with the Spirit.
  • Understand that our goal is to keep being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Part 3

Key Point:  We advance God’s Kingdom by His power

Key Scripture:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. Then you will tell people about me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria. And you will even tell other people about me from one end of the earth to the other.

Acts 1:8 (NIRV)

Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn that they need to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit first to advance God’s Kingdom.
  • Understand the purpose of being filled with the Spirit and receiving spiritual gifts.
  • Know they are not alone when advancing God’s Kingdom because God is with them.

Part 2

Key Point: The Holy Spirit gives power

Key Scripture:

 To some people the Spirit gives a message of wisdom. To others the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge. To others the same Spirit gives faith. To others that one Spirit gives gifts of healing.  To others he gives the power to do miracles. To others he gives the ability to prophesy. To others he gives the ability to tell the spirits apart. To others he gives the ability to speak in different kinds of languages they had not known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages. All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit. He gives gifts to each person, just as he decides.

At the conclusion of this lesson children will:

  • Learn that spiritual gifts are received when they are filled with the Spirit.
  • Discover more about the spiritual gift of prophecy and speaking in tongues
  • Understand the Holy Spirit decides the spiritual gift each person receives.
